On Friday 9th November, Club Captain Bob Welfare-Ford was host for the day to Tom O'Connor who was with us as Guest Speaker in the evening at the annual Captain's Dinner. Tom was here in his role as ambassador for this year's Captain's Charity, Variety.
Before the black tie evening, Bob invited some of the members of Mentmore Golf & Country Club to take part in a small golf competition, an 18 hole stableford fun event which was won with a score of 36 points by the 2011 Club Captain Jon Dymock.
The evening began with pre-dinner drinks in the Main Lounge before sitting down to a fantastic 3 course meal with coffee and cheese and biscuits which was enjoyed by all who attended.
Bob started proceedings off with his speech describing how much he had enjoyed the year and thanking the people who had assisted him so well, with a bottle of wine and a special mention. It was then over to Tom O'Connor to entertain the guests with stories and anecdotes of his friends in show business, notably his good friend Tommy Cooper. The jokes, stories and quips flowed for over 3/4 of an hour with laughter filling the room and ended with a standing ovation to Tom.
To wrap up the formalities it was then over to Bob, his Vice Captain Peter Sheridan and Tom O'Connor to hand out the prizes to all the Major winners in this years Club competitions. Notable winners, from a long list, were Club Champion Lewis Blair, Champions Stableford Jonathan Hawes, Champions Medal Neil Winfield, Gaymer Trophy John Considine and winners of the 4 Ball Knockout Peter Ellis and Ian Vallance. Congratulations to all the trophy winners from another fantastic golfing year at Mentmore.
Bob concluded the evening by presenting Tom with a bottle of wine and a Mentmore logo'ed golf shirt as a small token of appreciation for being with us on this special day.
Everyone at Mentmore Golf & Country Club would like to congratulate Bob on a very successful year as Club Captain, he has worked extremely hard throughout the year and done a great job. He now hands over the Captaincy to Peter Sheridan on Sunday 25th November at the Captain's Drive-In.
